Julian is one of the UK’s most distinctive comedians. He divides his time between TV, radio, film and theatre as a comedy performer, presenter, writer and actor. Julian began working on the cabaret and alternative comedy scene in the 1980s, first under the alias Gillian Pieface and later as The Joan Collins Fan-club. Since then, he has undertaken many successful tours of his stage act and stand-up comedy.
His television career began with regular appearances on Friday Night Live and has since appeared on multiple programmes including Terry and Julian, All Rise for Julian Clary, Have I Got News for You, Who Do You Think You Are?, QI, Your Face Sounds Familiar and Celebrity Big Brother. Julian is also recognised for his work on stage. Most recently in Le Grand Mort. He also appeared in Boy George’s Taboo and in the Olivier Award-winning production of Cabaret. He has appeared in box office-record breaking, and award winning, pantomimes in the West End.
He is a Sunday Times best-selling novelist, having written Murder Most Fab, Devil in Disguise, and Briefs Encountered and his autobiography, A Young Man’s Passage. His latest memoir The Lick of Love is published in October 2021. He has also written a series of six children’s books The Bolds which have sold over half a million copies.
